Welcome to Amphora, one of Russia’s fastest growing publishing houses. Founded in 1998, Amphora has come a long way from our first year when we published only two titles to our present rate of more than 70 titles a month! We are currently on the list of the top ten Russian publishers and are looking to expand.
While Amphora’s first few years were oriented more toward publishing translated prose, we currently publish more original Russian titles (60%) than translations (40%). Today, Amphora represents many bestselling Russian authors as well as many up-and-coming talents. From the beginning Amphora has been dedicated to finding new young (or not so young) writers with high commercial potential and this continues to be an important element of our approach-in fact, it has become our trademark.
Some of Russia’s most well-known authors are at Amphora, such as:
Elena Khaetskaya - Adventure/historical/mystic thriller writer, Ms Khaetskaya combines all the elements of a successful fantasy novel. Her knowledge of history, both scholarly and mystical/apocryphal, is extensive. Ms Khaetskaya’s scholarly erudition combined with the talent of a natural storyteller allows her to create vivid and dazzling historical novels.
Max Frei - Mr Frei’s ten-book series Mazes of Echo has already sold more than one million copies in Russia and they are still flying off the shelves. This series of fantasy novels is as entertaining as it is thought-provoking. Mr Frei is also the author of several articles on art and literature, a reference dictionary, The ABCs of Modern Art, and an anthology of Russian and foreign authors.
Ilya Stogoff - the author of half a dozen novels (Machos Don’t Cry) and non-fiction titles says: “That slogan, you know, ‘sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll ,’ had bitten the dust long before my Dad found out the color of Mom's underpants. So now comes the time for a new slogan, something like ‘bucks, radio, and oral sex’…” Stogoff's prose is profoundly male-oriented though female readers are also welcome to join in. Really - how else can they learn that tough boys also cry sometimes?
Oksana Butuzova - We are very excited about this newly signed writer whose novel, The House, places the video game, “The Sims,” inside a Kafkaesque nightmare. Ms Butuzova: “I’ve made the construction of the House the ultimate goal for my characters but one needn’t take this idea literally. Even though the House lies in the center of my heroes’ lives, the main idea of the novel is how to build a soul rather than any wooden or stone structure.”
We look forward to hearing from you and wish you all the best.
